Gotland pine
Gotland pine (Pinus sylvestris) is a well-known term that originates from the slow-growing Gotland pine , and many claim that Gotland pine has unique properties.
A new study from RISE, Research Institutes of Sweden, also seems to confirm that it is true: The Gotland pine has a higher density, 578 kilograms per cubic meter, compared to pine from other parts of the country, about 415 kilograms per cubic meter. It grows slowly on the Gotland limestone bedrock and therefore the annual rings are dense and give it its unique properties. The high wood density together with a higher extractive content means a further increase in quality.
(Extractive substance - organic substance that can be released with water or organic solvents. Extractive substances are usually low molecular weight, e.g. oligosaccharides, fats, terpenes and phenols. Extractive substances give wood resistance to rot and are formed to varying degrees in the wood / - Skogsencyclopedin)
